Former Drake PR Professor Dies

Well known Drake Public Relations professor Rhonda Menke Haas passed away on Tuesday, August 5. She was an instructor and advisor to many students who have become working professionals in Des Moines and beyond.

Announcement via the Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communications:

We are so sorry to share that Ronda Menke Haas, public relations professor/legend at Drake University from 1990-2013, passed away Tuesday following a brief and unexpected illness. She was 64.

Ronda was instrumental in building and growing Drake's successful public relations program, and the list of professionals she mentored is too long to list. Her impact on students and Drake can't appropriately be measured because it was so significant. Prior to joining Drake, Ronda worked for the Republican Party of Iowa, CMF&Z, the Iowa House of Representatives, and General Growth Properties.

Ronda married her husband, Marty, in 2013, and she was enjoying retirement. Marty joins Ronda's son Jason, daughter-in-law Tamara, grandchildren Andrew, Carter, and Kennedy, and many other family and friends in remembering this remarkable woman. Memorial service and memorial gift information to follow. Please keep Ronda's family in your thoughts as we remember her.
