Joel Geske, Iowa State University Associate Professor in Advertising, Named the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication’s Inaugural Allen Essman Faculty Fellow
The fellowship—the first of its kind at the Greenlee School—was established by ISU alumna and Des Moines business leader Denise Essman (marketing, 1973) of Essman/Associates, in honor of her late husband, Allen Essman. The fellowship recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in advertising and/or public relations education.
Allen, an ISU alumnus, was an instructor in advertising and photography at the Greenlee School for several years before partnering with his wife, Denise, in 1977 to establish Essman/Associates and Essman/Research. Allen passed away in 2010 after a distinguished career in advertising.
Geske is in the midst of his 30th year teaching advertising and media diversity courses at the Greenlee School. His research focuses on diversity and inclusion in the classroom and how the brain processes visual information.
Geske was honored by Greenlee faculty and staff and the Greenlee School Advisory Council at a recognition ceremony on Oct. 5 at Hamilton Hall on the Iowa State University campus.
