PRESENTER BIOS

Breakfast Keynote - Love. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.

Paula Weisenbeck | Account Director

Paula is an avid supporter of integrated thinking and cross-platform solutions.  This is most recognizable via her work with the partnerships team at Subaru, where she has led such inventive projects such as the Subaru Zero Landfill project.  This first of its kind public-private partnership has the goal of eliminating trash sent to the landfills in our national parks and has been recognized for its effort by several organizations including the Effies and the UN.

She has brought this thinking to other clients including the fully-integrated launch of the all-new Cadillac.  This globally-produced, two-time Effie-winning campaign not only beat sales goals, but brought an entirely new group of shoppers into the Cadillac brand.  Other efforts include leading cross-agency marketing planning and advertising execution for Purina brands as well as work with Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express, the NYSE, Kozy Shack Pudding and Nordstrom.

Adam Craw | Account Director

Adam Craw joined Carmichael Lynch over three and half years ago working on Subaru as an Account Director. In his role, Adam leads a team that handles all major launch initiatives for the brand. Adam has a broad range of category experience working at world-class creative agencies including Fallon, Wieden+Kennedy, M&C Saatchi and Publicis. Creative work that Adam has worked on for the likes of Target, Sony, T-Mobile, Cadillac, The San Diego Zoo and Loctite Glue has been recognized by Time Magazine, the Andy Awards, Addys, Ad Age and Adweek.

Lunch Panel Discussion - Making the Case for Infusing Diversity in Design

Josh Fleming, Vice President of Marketing, Bank Iowa

Josh Fleming has been working in marketing for over 20 years and has focused on corporate branding and digital media strategies. Josh recently joined Bank Iowa as their Vice President of Marketing where he overseas marketing communications for the bank. Prior to Bank Iowa, Josh was with the The Meyocks Group, developing brand strategies and marketing plans for a variety of clients. Josh has also spent time at Lessing-Flynn, The Integer Group and DHI Holdings.

The University of Missouri graduate is the former AMA Iowa Chapter President, a member of the Business Record’s Forty Under 40, and for a middle-aged ginger, he’s actually a pretty decent guy. In fact, Fleming typically attributes any perceived success to consistently being surrounded by people more talented than himself.

‚ÄčIn his spare time (which is rare), Josh teaches a digital marketing class at Drake University and is currently pitching an animated comedy series he wrote to the good folks at NetFlix. True story.

Josh and his lovely wife Daina (as in someone’s in the kitchen with Dinah) live in Waukee and spend their free time driving their occasionally lovely five children to soccer, baseball, basketball, ballet and swim meets.

JOHN ONG, Video Director, Hallmark Cards, Inc.

John Ong is a multimedia story-teller. He infuses his love of photography and cinematography into his crafted and compelling stories. Currently, he is a video director at Hallmark’s photography and video studio where he produces and directs videos for Hallmark’s marketing and social media content development needs. His broad directorial work ranges from stop-motion animations to documentary shorts. Prior to Hallmark, John held a senior motion graphic designer position at Garmin’s internal advertising agency and also worked as the lead motion graphic designer at a post-production facility in Kansas City where he created motion graphics and visual effects for TV commercials for accomplished brands like Walmart, Sonic, Build-A-Bear Workshop, and Garmin.

John is an actively committed diversity and inclusion advocate. He has served as chair for Hallmark’s Asian American employee resource group and is currently involved in multiple other ERGs, including the LGBTQ group. He also devotes his time volunteering as the Director of Marketing & Public Relations for the Kansas City chapter of the National Association of Asian American Professional (NAAAP).

John was born and raised in Malaysia to a Chinese immigrant family. He grew up speaking five languages and is enthusiastic about learning more! He holds a degree in Broadcasting and Film and has made Kansas City his home. John is also a podcast pioneer and has been running an extremely successful language preservation podcast since 2005. As a perpetual optimist, he loves to spread his positive outlook on life to the people around him. John is a self-proclaimed poster child of a smiley.

SUBASHINI NADARAJAH, Director of Design, VML Kansas City

Subashini (Suba) Nadarajah, originally from Malaysia, has spent the past 26 years in Kansas City. She believes that art and design, combined with storytelling, give our world a sense of connectivity. They’re universal languages that bring people together. Sharing art is one of her utmost fundamental beliefs. She worked at River City Studio, Bernstein-Rein, Blacktop Creative and Hallmark before landing at VML as director of design, where she concentrates on brand expression and design-focused projects. She works alongside client teams to provide design inspiration and takes on branding projects to sharpen the company’s focus on the craft of design.

At Hallmark, Suba served as the creative director for the retail visual merchandising creative team. Her responsibilities included giving companywide creative direction, creating store canvas style guides, and controlling work quality and brand development. Suba also worked with the president of retail as part of Hallmark’s strategic planning and branding.

Suba is relentless when it comes to developing compelling creative strategies and implementing a seamless project plan to meet the need of a brand. Her varied years of experience in print, advertising and television makes her a unique fit for brands looking to make the leap to the next level in creative direction.

Over the years, Suba has worked closely with major brands such as Walmart, McDonald’s, Sprint, Bayer, Beauty Brands, Kansas City Zoo, Kansas City Power and Light District, Disney, and Godfather’s Pizza. She is also an adjunct professor at the Kansas City Art Institute, where she teaches branding and design systems. Her work has been recognized and earned awards from The One Show, Art Directors Club, and ADDY Awards. Suba serves as a strong supporter and steering member of VML’s Diversity and Inclusion Council, ensuring initiatives align to the council’s mission.

When not at VML, Suba is a closet architect who designed her own home where she resides with her 6-years-of-rescue blue merle sheltie. Her home was even featured in Dwell’s online article “Your Rooms We Love.” She is an aspiring equestrian, a world traveler, a photographer, an avid walker, and a Pilates lover who finds balance in life through meditation and living mindfully. Guiding meditation and sharing how to live a mindful life has become one of Suba’s many life aspirations. In a recent KC TED Talk, she discussed how powerful our breath can be when we are mindful of its virtues and powers.
